Gas Stove Video and Interview

www.distilled.earth
I just released my first YouTube video.

Last week was a bit wild.

My stories about gas stoves (here and here) went viral on Twitter. According to my analytics they have been viewed more than 20 million times. Immediately I was inundated with interview requests from news outlets around the country. Then on Friday night, I received a call from a Congresswoman about some of my reporting (more on that in a future newsletter).

Over the weekend, I filmed and edited a video about my gas stove reporting. Today, I’m excited to share that video and a behind-the-scenes interview with all of you.

Gas stove video and new YouTube channel

Something I’ve learned in my career as a journalist is that a lot of people don’t read. No matter how much time or energy I put into a story, there are some people that I will never be able to reach with the written word.

This is one reason why I decided to launch a YouTube channel. Those of you who listened to my interview with David Roberts, know that I’ve been planning this for months.

Earlier today, I published my first video in this new endeavor. It’s about the gas stove experiment I wrote about last week.

Videos like this take a lot of time and money. So thank you to those of you who have chipped in $5 per month as paid subscribers. None of these stories would be possible without your support.

Behind-the-scenes interview with Brady Seals

As a part of my research on gas stoves, I interviewed Brady Seals, one of the authors of the gas stove study that made headlines around the world. Given how much Seals’ research shaped public discourse over the last week, I wanted to share the whole interview.

This is the first time I’ve published a full-length interview like this. I’d love your feedback on what you liked and didn’t like. If enough people like the format, I might make it a regular thing and add some fancy intro music to future interviews.

For the last few months, I’ve spent hundreds of hours reporting on the fossil fuel industry. For each story, I’ve read through public documents, interviewed experts, and distilled everything down into a series of short articles.
