In the 60s and 70s the Dutch government was building car-centered cities. Here's how and why they pivoted.
I have moved from a car culture city, Sacramento, CA. to a walking, public transportation and bike culture city, Helsinki, Finland. In Sacramento life was a constant hassle because every time you wanted to do something you had to get in your car and engage in the car culture war. In Helsinki we don't even need a car and life is so much easier, cheaper and less harmful to the environment.
